The Spanish Pig Farmers Association (ANPROGAPOR) was established on July 1, 1977, in accordance with the provisions of the Law of 19/1977 of April 1, to defend the interests of pig farmers. Its territorial scope is National, it brings together partners from the different Regions of Spain and it is a non-profit entity.

The Objectives of the Association are, among others, the following:

  • The study and proposal of solutions to the problems of swine production, and in a concrete way the proposal of measures and collaboration with the Government for an effective development and ordering of the sector.
  • Collaborate with the Government in the field of health of pig production and defense of sanitary conditions.
  • Advise ANPROGAPOR members of all current regulations (EU, National and Regional levels), which may affect the regulation and organization of the sector.
  • Promote training programs for farmers, veterinary technicians, managers, farm employees etc. to qualify professionals in this sector to the demands of technological development and the market.
  • Inform ANPROGAPOR members of the activities carried out by the Association, as well as remit the prices of live animals for slaughter and piglets from the most representative EU markets and agricultural information, and in their circulars, documents, reports, studies, Community and Spanish legislation, etc., that is, everything related to the pig sector that is considered of interest to them.

The partners of ANPROGAPOR are: National Associations (Spanish Association of Breeders of Selected Pig Livestock), Regional or Provincial producers of pigs, Cooperatives, SAT, Health Defense Groups, Livestock Enterprises and Individual farmers that are dedicated to the production of livestock pigs and are interested in the defense of the sector. Livestock breeding, multiplication, hybridization, production and feedlots, etc., in its facets of intensive and extensive, are members of this Association. ANPROGAPOR represents 85% of pork production in Spain, both white pig and Iberian pig.
