Step 2

Mapping your starting situation – animal performance  and health, biosecurity, antibiotic use and farm self-assessment

“To know where you want to go, you need to know where you are”

Developing a farm health improvement plan is similar to setting your car navigation for a long journey to a destination you have never been before.

The first thing your navigation system does is determining your departing location and then calculates the different routes you can travel to your destination. Similarly, for the farm improvement journey: you want to start with analysing from which level you and your farm start from in terms of current animal performance and health, biosecurity, medication and antibiotic use. Moreover, information on these aspects will offer you insight into realistic improvement targets. Additionally, you can also already pinpoint some areas of the farm or farm processes that need actions to improve.  The set of action points you and your team choose to work on, resonate with the different routes the car navigation offers you to reach your destination.

From this page you can continue to more detailed instructions and resources to establish your baselines for animal performance and health, biosecurity and antibiotic use. Also, we offer some farm self-asessment questionnaires to collect the team members perspectives on current strenghts and weaknesess of the farm.
